Reflexive Pronouns

Gramática inglesa. Reflexive Pronouns - Pronombres reflexivos y verbos reflexivos.  

Utilizamos un pronombre reflexivo cuando el sujeto (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) y el objeto de una frase son los mismos.

• I burnt myself cooking lunch. - Me quemé preparando la comida.
• John hurt himself when he fell. - John se hizo daño cuando se cayó.
• She looked at herself in the mirror. - Ella se miró en el espejo.
• The cat scratched itself. -  El gato se rascó.

Verbos que no son reflexivos en inglés pero sí son reflexivos en español.

• He has a shave in the morning. - Él se afeita por la mañana.
• They are sitting in the garden. - Ellos se sienten en el jardín.
• We are staying at home tonight. - Nos quedarnos hoy en casa.
• We go to bed at 12 o’clock. - Nos acostamos a las 12.
• Ana wakes up early. - Ana se despierta temprano.

A veces el verbo get + adjetivo corresponde a un verbo reflexivo en español.

• They got married last year. - Se casaron el año pasado.

get wet	mojarse

By myself, by yourself, etc tienen dos significados. Pueden significar "por su cuenta" (sin ayuda) o solo, sola, o sea sin compañía.

by myself	solo/a, yo mismo/a
by yourself	solo/a, tú mismo
by himself	solo/a, él mismo
by herself	solo/a, ella misma
by itself	solo/a, sí mismo
by ourselves	solos/as, nosotros mismos
by themselves	solos/as, sí mismos

• She went on holiday by herself. - Ella fue de vacaciones sola.
• He always likes to spend some time by himself. - A él siempre le gusta pasar un tiempo solo.
• They can do it by themselves. Ellos lo pueden hacer solos (sin ayuda).
• I did it all by myself. - Lo hizo todo yo mismo.
• I can’t move the table by myself. It’s too heavy. - No puedo mover la mesa yo solo. Pesa demasiado .
• You have to do it by yourself. - Tienes que hacerlo tú mismo.
• They can do it by themselves. Ellos pueden hacerlo solos.

                              each other expresa una acción recíproca.

• We live near each other. - Vivimos cerca.
• Ann and Mary know each other very well.  - Se conocen muy bien.
• They often write to each other. - Se escriben a menudo.
• We looked at each other. - Nos miramos.
